Watch a child at U-GRO for a few minutes and you will see the approach in motion. Children follow their own curiosity here. They develop a sense of wonder and make discoveries each day. Teachers stay close and pay attention to what each child is drawn to. The work is to help children meet or exceed Pennsylvania standards for kindergarten readiness.

Rooms are arranged so a child can choose. Low shelves hold materials within reach. There are places to build, paint, read, and dig into sand or water. Much of the day is intentional, active play and hands-on exploration, with blocks and dress-up and long stretches outdoors. Meals and rest come at predictable times, which children count on.

Teachers notice what holds a child's attention and build on it. A child stacking blocks may be nudged toward counting, balancing, and drawing what they built. Mornings begin at 6:30, when the first children arrive. A teacher greets each child by name and helps them put their bag in their cubby. The middle of the day holds the real work. Children play in small groups, work on a project, and move between the classroom and the playground. Meals and rest come at the same time each day, so children know what happens next. Teachers sit with children while they eat and read with them before they sleep.

The afternoon is slower. Children wake, have a snack, and choose something to do until families arrive. A teacher might note what your child built, who they played with, or the new word they tried. Pickup is a good time to ask a question, and teachers will answer it. Doors close at 6:00.
